One thing you should know is that the variable cannot have quotes in it UNLESS you precede it with a backslash. The AppleScript simply sets a variable 'theXML' to what you copied and then asks Clip Manager to set the clipboard and paste it into FileMaker. Once you have the XML version of what you copied in FileMaker, which is just text formatted very specifically, you can create a simple AppleScript that pastes that item back into FileMaker. Here's what Go to Layout looks like in Clip Manager when copied from FileMaker:
Clip Manager converts whatever you copied into XML that you can manipulate or simply store the copied items, which is what we do in this case. When both are installed, you can use Clip Manager to copy anything that you can copy from FileMaker. That's what Clip Manager and FastScripts does for us. Something this easy could take ten script statements, so why would you want to choose those ten script statements over and over when you can define it once and simply choose to insert those ten at one time. A technique could be as simple as a standard way to show a Dialog Message to the user to ask from permission or data.

And yes, its a bit frustrating to watch the FastScripts gear spin up in the menubar on those occasions when I’m forced to reboot after a software update. Yes, it took me a while to retrain my fingers from QS navigation habits to LaunchBar navigation habits. I’ve never had to relaunch one to fix a memory leak I’ve never had a key combination that suddenly stopped launching a script or digging into a folder. LaunchBar, FastScripts Lite 2, and Jumpcut have never failed. But sometimes nothing worked a keystroke combination or workflow that I’d been using for months would suddenly go belly-up and everything I tried to bring back to life would fail. If I was less lucky a reinstall would get it back to normal-that would take several minutes. If I was lucky, shutting it down and relaunching would solve the problem-that was pretty fast. I’d become so dependent on its shortcuts that when it didn’t work I had to stop what I was doing and try to fix it. When Quicksilver worked, I loved it, but when it didn’t it was a time suck. Unfortunately, the price you pay for the “one program to rule them all” is stability. Three programs to take the place of one? Yes, QS is a monster of a program and can handle many, many tasks.

The combination of LaunchBar (for launching applications, opening folders, and occasionally running scripts), FastScripts Lite (for running scripts most of the time), and Jumpcut (for keeping and accessing a Clipboard history) has made me a happier and more productive Mac user. I was a pretty heavy QS user and worried that I’d feel lost without it.
